After more than three decades of musical collaboration that continues to take them around the world, duo-pianists Stephen Nielson and Ovid Young are veterans of more than 3,500 concerts in a fascinating array of venues.
Those performance sites have ranged from Copenhagen, Denmark's Tivoli Concert Hall; Toronto, Canada's Roy Thompson Hall; Madras, India's Academy of Music; Moscow, Russia's Kremlin and Tchaikovsky Hall; Oberammergau, Germany's Passionspiel Theatre; Bern, Switzerland's Konzerthaus; and Dallas, Texas' Meyerson Symphony Center. Nielson & Young have been hosted for concerts at many hundreds of churches and universities, appearing by themselves or with symphony orchestras from coast to coast in the United States and abroad.
On the artistic staff of the International Church Music Festival since 1985, Ovid and Stephen have been active church music leaders in addition to having held appointments as university professors in California, Illinois, Texas and Indiana. Individually and jointly, they are widely-published composers of music for solo and multiple keyboards, choir and orchestra. Nielson & Young's extensive discography includes many recordings from the classical repertoire as well as from the ever-expanding output of their signature hymn-tune arrangements, many of which settings are for two pianos and orchestra.
One of the most versatile musicians before the concert public today, Ovid Young - pianist, organist, composer and conductor - has performed in virtually every sizable city in the USA as well as in England, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, The Czech Republic, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Canada, Denmark, India and the Caribbean. His nearly 7,000 concert appearances over the past three decades have placed him before hundreds of thousands of music lovers. Millions more have witnessed this veteran performer on television throughout America, Australia, Western Europe and the former Soviet Union.
Distinguished in both classical and sacred music, Steinway Artist Stephen Nielson is widely regarded as one of the distinctive artists of our time. His concertizing has taken him to such cities as Hong Kong, Bogota, Freiburg, Copenhagen, Berlin, London, Vienna, Brussels, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Prague, Salzburg, Jerusalem and Chennai, India, to name a few. He has toured major artistic centers in Russia, the Baltics, Japan and Switzerland, and is an Ambassador of Culture for the World Cultural Alliance. His North American solo and chamber music itinerary for more than a quarter century numbers concerts in the hundreds, from Los Angeles to Boston, Seattle to Naples, Detroit to Mexico City, Miami to Winnipeg and Toronto, Chicago to Dallas.
